Legacy Transit LLC was founded by Zuwena Cotton and her daughter Bobbie. Zuwena was a passionate educator for nearly two decades. She always looked for ways to uplift and inspire her students and staff. “It’s not about how you start, but how you finish,” is one quote she regularly shared with students to push them past their circumstances into the future they desired. During her journey in Milwaukee schools, Zuwena never lost sight of the bigger picture — to be a change agent and enable others to improve their life trajectory.

In the spring of 2018, Bobbie was finishing up with her bachelor’s degree and deciding what post-bac options to pursue. Following up on a lead that Zuwena had received from an enthusiastic Amazon delivery driver, the pair considered applying to become a Delivery Service Partner (DSP) for Amazon. The mother/daughter team knew this opportunity would give them the ability to offer family-supporting jobs to the residents of Greater Milwaukee. They took the leap of faith and were awarded a contract to become a DSP. In the spring of 2019, Legacy Transit LLC was born.

At that time, they had six employees and managed a fleet of five vehicles. Since then, Legacy has grown to a fleet of 40 vehicles. In 2020, they grew to an average of 65 active drivers each month. Many of the employees from 2019 are still with Legacy. Some have advanced in their roles and stay with the company because of the “family feel” and opportunities the company offers.
